In 2021, Julien Tanghe — founding member of JAKOMO — depicted a more experimental side of his musical personality with the audiovisual project 'l e v e n s v e r d r i e t'. With music under the moniker 'azúcar giaco' and images by Anne Ballon, the film is a daring ode to melancholy and aims at reflecting undefined sadness in a beautiful way.

'l e v e n s v e r d r i e t' is an audiovisual project that welcomes visitors to an atmospheric search for beauty in the sombre. Taking the contrast of calm and turmoil as its central focus, frigid electronics, unpredictable dynamics and hovering melodies interact. It is an attempt to channel chaotic feelings into a harmonious whole and an attempt to tell the emptiness of being in an abstract narrative where image and music converge. The project reflects an experimental process of introspection, perception and exchange that aspires to culminate in an exhibition that encourages free interpretation and imagination. The film is an exposure, embrace and redemption of feelings of gloom and sadness, but above all it hopes to immerse the visitor in an atmosphere that can be freely experienced.

Some of the music present the raw origins of what has led to JAKOMO tunes, while other parts are simply something different. Accompanied by visuals taken in Brussels, the project became a dousing wave of soothing for crazy times like those we were trapped in during the pandemic.
